Hocus focus?

When we first moved to Palm Bay in 1996 I was sure we were like the Hebrew children wandering in the dessert. Two things I learned from our 5+ years at Covenant Pres. in Palm Bay was God's providence in the story of Moses throughout the wandering in the desert and the introduction to the Westminster Confession of faith.

Q.1.Westminster Confession of Faith

  • What is Man's primary Purpose?
  • Man's primary purpose is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.

Fast Forward to our first summer in Jacksonville, 2005 and the Beth Moore Bible Study "Believing God" at Eastside Community. One of the first "lessons" Beth Moore spoke on was that we as Christians, if we are believing God... we are in the promised land. Palm Bay was such a learning time and now it was like I had graduated. When I read yesterday's Utmost and today's I am reminded of the first question in WCF and of the Israelites. While I may have come to rest in the Providence of the One who bore it all I am sure I am still whining and complaining like those Israelites. Still clinging to stubbornness and not wanting to give up my comforts. I am so glad though it is not by might and not by power but by God's spirit that this will be taken to the cross.

Psalm 44: 3 "It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them."

Yes, I too whine and complain like the Israelites. Yet, when I read of their troubles in the bible, I just can't believe how much they complained...even though God supplied every need. Urg....I'm no different.
