When you Grow Up

Speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4 : 15-16

What did you want to be when you grew up? "I want to be a garbage truck." Elise will say if you ask. For the last couple of months she has been vacillating between a garbage truck and an airline pilot who flies people to their vacations . This weekend though she added that she wanted to be a doctor/ airline pilot that flies to help people. Now we're getting somewhere. The first thing I remember wanting to be was a pediatrician...my mom even made little business cards for me to hand out when I was in the fifth grade. At some point I gave up wanting a profession and thought it was fashionable to want to be like certain admirable/venerable ladies. I don't know if it was in a magazine, book or women's retreat I heard that you should start being that person instead of hoping to be that person. Another dream down the tube. Today's verse of the day reminds me that I am growing up in Christ...to be like Him. So much better than the French Ambassador job I wanted in High School.

I first wanted to be a secretary when I was little after visiting work with my Daddy but by middle school I knew what I really wanted in life was to be a Mommy.

I wanted to be a teacher. I don't know when that changed, but once I met Eric, I wanted to stay at home. I wanted to be a mommy, too. Wish granted. It helps to remind myself of that every once in a while. Thanks for an insightful post.

I don't really want to track what I eat but I need to see how often I am really exercising and how much. THanks for all the comments!

Growing up I wanted to be a wife and mommy with lots of kids while all my friends were talking about how they were going to have careers. Funny how it turned out - they are all stay at home moms now and I am the one with the career.

After working in the Airline Industry for 30 years...let me tell you that being a Pilot and a Garbage Truck aren't all that different. Have you ever seen an airplane after a full flight? It is really unbelieveable...I used to say...Did they fly in UPSIDE DOWN?
I wanted to be a teacher when I was very young...I had a chalk board in my basement and I used to teach my stuffed animals. Then when I was in about 6th grade, I decided I wanted to be a Betty Crocker Recipe Tester...have my own little "office" kitchen. I took Home Economics and Education in college. I never finished...and have been a Delta Air Lines employee for 30 years.
