Do not be conformed

Susan called Thursday to say her Bunco group needed an extra person Saturday night, and Tracy (our Monday night walking friend) would be there. Knowing that Josh had a commitment right after work Friday and a class all day Saturday I quickly said yes w/out thinking it through. Tracy has been a fill in before so she knew the Bunco lingo, cheering the other ladies on to roll the right number (like that helps?) And high-five-n when a Bunco was rolled (like they had any control over it).
At some point in the evening a rule was declared that you had to dance when you rolled a Bunco. Fortunately I didn't roll a Bunco. But the last girl did and busted out with a wonderful rendition of 2 Legit to Quit. Hilarius!
That song came out about the same time Carmen was touring. I can't believe none of you had anything funny to say about that, okay I know you lead very busy lives, sick kids, traveling, Blah, Blah, Blah.
It's interesting to see what will bring a comment and what doesn't. I certainly don't post a comment every post ya'll make. Don't be mistaken, I am reading them ALL, and I love every one.
Oh, the balance of being yourself and not conforming to what others think you should be or do.
I am trying to read through Steve Brown's Scandalous Freedom. Something I read last night was to the effect that you should be yourself and not put on (spiritual)masks...that non-conformity can get you into a lot of trouble unless the person you are nonconforming around is nonconforming in the same way and then are you really nonconforming.?
Oh my.
Happy Monday

I had a very good laugh over your whole Carmen thing and yes, I remember that night actually pretty well. Have you seen his movie "The Champion"? He actually produced and starred in it. Brought back some pantamime nightmares, but that's another blog for another time. Bunco is a pretty fun game if you are playing with additional rules. Mexican Dominos is pretty big here, although it doesn't really float our boats.

I've never heard of Mexican Dominos... I guess it isn't what the Cubans play on Calle Ocho in Miami (he, he...get it?). My neighborhood has Bunco clubs, but I've never joined - Effie plays and said she would invite me over one night but that hasn't come to pass as of yet.

I remember volunteering at the Carmen concert. They did love offerings in those days as opposed to ticket sales. Robert Lewis and I were assigned to the same section so I sat with him that night. I remember near the end of the concert Carmen asked the audience (every seat filled) what they wanted to hear...everyone was yelling the Champion and there was Robert - all by his lonesome - yelling out Lazarus! I remember just looking at him and thinking - I don't think Carmen is going to hear you.

hopefully michael will read this and your past post because he was a HUGE fan of carmen. he would work his shows, that is how much he enjoyed his music.
about the mexican dominoes...while michael was snowed in, up north, they played mexican dominoes and loved it. he was trying to explain it to me, but without the pieces, i was lost. he did say that it was a game that our whole family could play....
