When I was in Jr. High and Highschool my mom quilted and belonged to the River City Piecemaker's Guild. That is where my love of quilts and desire to sew started. I used to cut out pictures of quilts from Country Living and dream about what kind of quilt I would make. The summer before I got married I made my first quilt top(never finished it). Mrs. Wooten, a lady from my mom's guild help my mom make my wedding dress.
Yesterday, Elise, my mom and I went to Quilt Fest at the convention center. We spent 3 hrs looking at quilts and all the wonderful booths selling kits to make whatever quilt your heart desired. They had a kids booth set up where kids could make their own "quilt". Mrs. Wooten
is still a member of the RCPG and was there and helped Elise make her first quilt. I didn't take my camera to the Quilt Fest but I made sure I took a picture when we got home. Then I couldn't stop taking pictures.
A few weeks back the belt on my sewing machine broke, Josh ordered a new belt off the internet and we are awaiting its delivery any day. Hopefully soon so I can sew!
While Elise and I were enjoying quilts Josh was at the Peacemaker's Conference in Orlando. He left Thursday right after my City Council meeting and came home last night ready to tell me everything he learned. Can't wait for that...I'm more of piecemaker.

I read a book once about a girl who quilted and how each quilt told a story about the time she was in her life, the colors - the pictures or colors of the cloth - the pattern that was used....all a story. It was really neat to read and to realize how when quilts are handed down from generation to generation, it is almost like documenting your family history.
From a non-quilter's point a view, they are just pretty and amazing to see the patience that went into making one, but apparently there is so much more to them than that.
I think it's awesome how you, Elise and your mom could all share that together.
I am a quilting enthusiast as well, I made my first and only quilt the first year Glen and I were married. We have a quilting guild at our church and everytime Glen sees the parking lot filling up with ladies and their sewing machines he tells me I should join...haven't yet, but maybe one day. I hope to encourage Lydia to be a great seamstress some day. I would love to pass down the heritage of my grandmother to her.

I love that they have a children's booth and you make your own quilt! Hopefully, it will be the first of many!
