great comfort

my sister Cathron and her family this past June, pray for her comfort
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Psalm 23 : 4-5

As I reflected on this Psalm last week I thought of it not in a way that it applies to me/the living but, could it be read for those who had already died? Stephen has nothing more to fear, his head is anointed and his cup overflows in the house of the Lord. Does that idea fall apart at v.6 when "goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life". In one sense he has no life left but in another he has the abundant life that we only hope for. Oh, the grace and mercy that covers all our sins so that it is only through Christ's work and none of our own that we can receive that goodness, and that is indeed a great comfort.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of all mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in our tribulations, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
II Corinthians 1:3,4

Psalm 121
A song of ascents.
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills—
where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
he will watch over your life;

8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

I was reading that psalm tonite(it is on the wall near the bathroom and I was brushing my teeth) it was mind stretching to read that He will not let your foot slip...when Stephen's foot did slip...but I know that the Lord still watched over him and is still watching over my sister and the rest of the family.
